Workington Town are today delighted to confirm the capture of Australian Talisman Jarrod Sammut, a signing that is arguably the biggest in the clubs recent history

A stand out in the NRL with Penrith, Sammut came to England and played superleague at Bradford Bulls, Celtic Crusaders and finally the Wakefield trinity Wildcats, establishing himself as a firm fans favourite everywhere he went. Sammut is also a Maltese international and has been pivotal in establishing the Malta national side.

Midway through the 2015 season he joined Workington having left the Wildcats and instantly became a huge favourite with the crowd as he turned in a succession of match winning performances that helped the team pull away from the lower reaches of a tough championship division.

The permanent capture of Sammut in the face of fierce competition from rival clubs is a significant sign of the clubs intent to compete with the teams in the higher echelons of the Championship in the 2016 season

Club Director Gary McFarland who was an integral part of the negotiation process and who was instrumental in the signing, commented "Jarrod signing for the club on a permanent basis is a huge filip for all at the club. As a board we have worked really hard to make this deal happen and reward our loyal fans in the face of interest from rival clubs. That Jarrod has signed for us is an endorsement of the direction that we as a club are heading in, and a sign of intent by the club going into the 2016 season. We believe this is the most significant signing the club has made in its recent history. Everyone at the club is now looking forward to the season ahead"
