Whitehaven hold off Workington fightback to record overdue win

Whitehaven RLFC responded to the departure of their coach James Coyle with a 28-24 Kingstone Press Championship Shield victory over Workington Town in the Cumbrian derby at Derwent Park to revive their survival hopes.

Chris Taylor scored a try in each half and Ed Chamberlain, Jessie Joe Parker and Dion Aiye also touched down, with Louis Jouffret kicking four goals as Whitehaven claimed their first win since beating Workington in the Summer Bash in May.

Marc Shackley gave Town the lead with a second-minute try but they trailed 28-8 until Lee Doran went over for two tries in seven minutes, with Jarrod also touching down during the home side's late revival.
