Workington Town Celebrate 2026 at Annual Presentation Night

Players, staff, volunteers and supporters came together to celebrate the people who made a difference throughout the 2026 season!

Workington Town RLFC brought the curtain down on the 2026 season with a special Presentation Night at the Fanzone Marquee, celebrating the achievements and contributions of players, staff, volunteers and the wider Town family.

Kindly sponsored by West Coast Thermal Limited, the evening provided an opportunity to recognise some of the standout performers from the season, while also shining a light on the many people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the club moving forward.

PHILLIPS TAKES FIVE AWARDS

It was a memorable evening for Callum Phillips, who received an incredible five awards in what was his final season in the Blue and White.

Phillips was named:

  • Workington Town Player of the Year, selected by Head Coach Jonty Gorley
  • Players' Player of the Year
  • Blue Knights Group Player of the Year
  • Derwent Park Supporters Club Player of the Year
  • Workington Town Supporters Club George Petre Memorial Player of the Year

The recognition from his teammates, coaching staff and supporters was a fitting way to mark the end of an outstanding Town career.

Congratulations, Callum, and thank you for everything you have given to Workington Town.

AINLEY RECOGNISED AFTER BREAKTHROUGH SEASON

There was also plenty of recognition for Jack Ainley, who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2026.

Ainley collected three awards on the evening:

Players' Newcomer of the Year
Coaching Team Most Improved Player
TRSC Workington Town Supporters Club Player of the Year

The awards reflect the progress Ainley made throughout the campaign and the impact he had on the playing group.

CARTER LEADS THE WAY

Jake Carter took home two awards after an impressive season in front of the posts and across the try line.

Carter was named both Top Points Scorer and Top Try Scorer for the 2026 campaign.

Meanwhile, Oscar Doran claimed the Try of the Season award for his effort away against the Midlands Hurricanes.

WILLIAMS TAKES TIMES & STAR HONOUR

Bear Williams was recognised with the Times & Star Newsquest Player of the Year award.

The award adds to an evening packed with recognition for players who made their mark during a challenging but memorable Championship campaign.

RECOGNISING THE WORK BEYOND THE PITCH

While the players understandably took centre stage, the evening was also an important reminder that Workington Town is about far more than what happens for 80 minutes on matchday.

The Workington Town Community Trust received the Directors' Award for Most Significant Contribution in 2026.

The Trust has continued to expand its reach throughout the year, delivering projects and activities that have allowed the club to engage with and support a wide range of people across the community.

Zarrin Galea collected the award on behalf of the Trust from Town Director and main Trust sponsor Vicky Brown of No Name Travel Ltd.

The Brian Ritson Award for Most Influential Townie of 2026 was presented to Debbie McNicholas, Workington Town Community Trust Manager, in recognition of her outstanding contribution.

A huge congratulations to Debbie and everyone involved with the Trust for the work carried out throughout the year.

CHAIRMAN'S AWARD FOR WAYNE SCHOLEY

The Chairman's Award for Most Outstanding Individual Contribution to the Club in 2026 was awarded to Wayne Scholey.

Wayne has once again played a huge role across the club throughout the year, contributing well beyond the obvious matchday responsibilities.

Thank you, Wayne, for everything you have done for Workington Town throughout 2026.

THREE MORE NAMES JOIN THE VOLUNTEER HALL OF FAME

One of the most special moments of the evening came with the latest additions to the Workington Town Volunteer Hall of Fame.

Three individuals were recognised for their outstanding service to the club:

George Petre

A legendary Town kit man whose dedication to the club made him a hugely respected figure within the Town family.

George's son Gary collected the award on his behalf and spoke movingly about what the club meant to his father.

Les Horrigan

Another hugely respected former kit man, Les was unable to attend the evening as he is currently unwell.

Stephen 'Patch' Daniel accepted the award on Les's behalf, with everyone at the club wishing Les a speedy recovery.

Wayne Scholey

Wayne was also inducted into the Hall of Fame in recognition of his considerable service to Workington Town.

The three new inductees now join Richard West, Stephen 'Patch' Daniel and Jimmy Woolaghan in the Workington Town Volunteer Hall of Fame.

It was a fitting recognition of the people who have dedicated countless hours to the club, often without seeking recognition themselves.

A SPECIAL TOUCH FROM THE PLAYERS

The playing group also took the opportunity to recognise two people who have been alongside them throughout the season.

Current kit men Stephen Daniel and Robert Kirkbride were each presented with a signed shirt from the squad in recognition of their outstanding support throughout the year. A brilliant gesture from the players and one that reflects the strong relationships that exist throughout the club.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO MADE 2026 POSSIBLE

Presentation Night is about much more than trophies, It is about celebrating everyone who makes Workington Town what it is.

To our players and coaching staff, volunteers, kit men, Community Trust team, supporters, sponsors, directors and everyone who has contributed to the club throughout 2026 - thank you.

The 2026 season may now be over, but the work continues as we look towards an exciting new chapter for Workington Town. And after a night celebrating so many people who have given so much to the club, we can look forward to seeing what the future brings.

Congratulations to all of our 2026 award winners.
