REPORT: TOWN VS DEWSBURY

Our Town men travelled to Dewsbury on Sunday.

Town were left frustrated on the road on Sunday after a strong opening display ultimately ended in a 32-6 defeat away to Dewsbury Rams.

For large periods of the first half, Town looked sharp, energetic and fully in control of the contest, showing plenty of positive signs and putting themselves in a position to build towards what would have been an important result.

After an evenly contested opening spell, Town broke the deadlock in impressive fashion on 19 minutes.

Jamie Doran produced a clever kick to unlock the Dewsbury defence, with Zarrin Galea reacting quickest to touch down and continue his recent good form. Jake Carter added the conversion to give Town a deserved early advantage.

Town continued to ask questions of the home side and looked dangerous with ball in hand.

There was further encouragement when Mason Lewthwaite crossed the line following another strong attacking passage, only for the effort to be ruled out for a forward pass.

That moment proved pivotal.

Dewsbury managed to find momentum late in the first half, scoring twice in a six-minute spell to edge in front heading into the break despite Town having competed strongly throughout the opening 40 minutes.

At 10-6 down, the game remained firmly within reach.

Town opened the second half battling hard and looking to regain control, but Dewsbury found another level as the contest wore on and capitalised on opportunities to extend their advantage.

There was more frustration for Town when Lucas Castle thought he had reduced the deficit, only for another attacking opportunity to be ruled out following a forward pass decision.

Despite the final scoreline, there were positives to take away. Town again showed periods of strong attacking rugby and created opportunities against a Dewsbury side that found its stride in the second half.

The challenge now is finding consistency across the full 80 minutes, something the group continues to work tirelessly towards.

With important fixtures still ahead and players continuing to return and build combinations within the squad, there remains belief that performances can turn into results as the season progresses.

The focus now quickly shifts onto the next challenge, Barrow at home on the 7th of June, with Town determined to respond and keep pushing forward together.
