TOWN 2026 CHARITY PARTNERS ANNOUNCED!

What a playing kit, as Town support The Steve Prescott & Every Life Matters!

We are delighted to announce confirmation of our charity partners for 2026 are the Steve Prescott Foundation & Every Life Matters, the driving force behind the Cumbria United Suicide prevention initiative that is using the power & platform of sport to reduce the high suicide rates in Cumbria.

Workington Town RLFC are incredibly proud to join forces with two such powerful partners and hope we can help create significant funds to support their work.

We will play in the specially designed kit that combines the purple of Every Life Matters with the iconic kit that Steve Prescott wore in an image that will never be forgotten after his incredible try in the 1996 Challenge Cup Final comeback win over the Bradford Bulls. Steve went on to make history as being the first man in the world to undertake the first multi visceral transplant operation, leading to many, many lives being saved!

The Steve Prescott Foundation are honoured and privileged to be part of Workington Town’s Charity Day fixture against Keighley Cougars on 26th July, 2026.

Linzi Prescott, Trustee of the Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF), said:

“We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Graeme Peers, Carl Porter, and all the fantastic team at Workington Town for choosing the SPF as one of their charity partners for this special day.

This means so much to everyone at the SPF and to our beneficiaries, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and the Rugby League Benevolent Fund (Rugby League Cares).

The Christie serves many patients across the Cumbrian region, and cancer is a disease that touches so many lives. The work of the Benevolent Fund is equally vital, providing immediate reassurance and expert support when players suffer serious or life-threatening injuries and we are aware they are now supporting recently retired ex-Workington Town player Caine Barnes and that shows how the Rugby League community can help organisations within the sport.

Bennie Westwood & Tommy Martyn to head up to Workington for the big day!

Our ambassadors, rugby league legends Bennie Westwood and Tommy Martyn, will be attending the Fibrus Community Stadium alongside General Manager Martin Blondel on the day. They are looking forward to meeting supporters from both clubs, sharing rugby league stories, and highlighting the vital work of the SPF and why we remain so passionate about continuing Stephen’s legacy.

It promises to be a phenomenal day—one that the rugby league family will be truly proud of.”

The impact will not stop there and the fundraising will also support a crucially important local organisation Every Life Matters.

Nina Porter from Every Life Matters said:

“We are incredibly grateful to be chosen as a charity partner for this special fixture.

Through our project Cumbria United Against Suicide, we’ve already seen the commitment from everyone at Workington Town and the Workington Town Community Trust to creating real change, and it’s something that truly stands out. In professional sports especially, creating environments where mental health and suicide can be talked about openly is so important if we are to reduce the number of lives lost across our county.

Players like Zarrin Galea and Grant Reid have gone above and beyond — giving their time and sharing their lived experiences to make a difference for others. Being brave and vulnerable in this way can have a powerful impact, and role models like them can make a real difference. We are incredibly grateful for their contribution.

This partnership is about more than just a match; it’s about using the power of sport to bring people together, start conversations, and support one another.

We’re looking forward to being part of what promises to be a fantastic day and continuing to work together to make a lasting difference."
