REPORT: TOWN VS HUNSLET

Our men travelled to Hunslet to show our response.
After a difficult outing last week, Workington Town knew a reaction was needed, and that’s exactly what the players delivered with a powerful 38–6 victory away at Hunslet.
From the first whistle, there was a clear intent and energy about the group. The focus, physicality, and commitment were evident, and it didn’t take long for Town to make that pressure count.
The breakthrough came early as a well-worked move saw Oscar Doran make strong metres before linking with Jake Carter, who finished the play and added the conversion to give Town the perfect start.
Momentum continued to build, and just minutes later Alex Donaghy marked his milestone 100th appearance in style, producing an acrobatic finish out wide. Carter once again delivered from the touchline to extend the advantage.
Defensively, Town were just as impressive. When Hunslet threatened, the response was relentless with huge efforts across the park, including a crucial try-saving tackle from Donaghy and strong defensive stands from Bear Williams and Guy Graham to keep the line intact.
Town continued to control territory, and Carter added further points from the tee after sustained pressure forced an offside penalty close to the line.
Although Hunslet managed to cross just before the break, the message at halftime was clear - stay composed, keep the intensity high, and finish the job.
The second half saw Town do exactly that.
Playing with confidence and control, the visitors pushed further ahead, with Donaghy adding his second of the afternoon following another strong attacking set. The backs looked dangerous throughout, and the pack laid the platform with consistent go-forward.
Oscar Doran was next to get on the scoresheet, reacting quickly to a clever kick to extend the lead, before Zarrin Galea capped off the performance with a brilliant solo effort late on, breaking through the line and racing away to score under the posts.
It was a complete performance. A response built on pride, hard work, and togetherness which was exactly what was asked for, and exactly what was delivered.
To the supporters who made the journey, your backing didn’t go unnoticed. Thank you for getting behind the team. Your support plays a huge part, especially on the road.
Now the focus turns to this Sunday at 3pm, as we return home to face Sheffield.
We’ll be looking to build on this performance, keep the momentum going, and put in another strong display in front of our home crowd.
Be there, get behind the lads, and let’s keep this moving forward together.
