STADIUM INVESTMENT INCREASED BY £4.5M

Capacity to be 5000 with expanded main stand.
We are delighted to confirm that an extra £4.5m has been secured to extend the plans for the Workington based Cumberland Sports Village.
The cash, from the recently set up Cumbria Combined Authority means the new village, to be built on the footprint of current Workington AFC's Borough Park will have an expanded capacity of 5000 and will see all terraces replaced.
Workington AFC will play their final fixture on Saturday, 25th April at Borough Park before joining us at the Fibrus Community Stadium for the start of their 2026/27 season.
Original plans were to create Cumberland Sports Village in 2 phases, earmarked to open July 2027. The stadium will be shared ourselves & Workington AFC, the 2 professional sides and associated teams.
Phase 1 originally provided a capacity of 3700, this will now expand to 5000 with work to be carried out in 1 single phase.
The project will now be managed and delivered by Cumberland Council and an updated timetable for work and expected opening date will be confirmed soon.
Leader of the Cumberland Council Mark Fryer said: 'The Cumberland Sports Village forms a key element in the plans for the regeneration of Workington. The project will provide a transformed community sports and leisure offer within the Lower Derwent Valley close to Workington Town Centre and the existing Workington Leisure Centre, cricket & bowling clubs.
As well as sport, the stadium will also act as a focul point for both the community and businesses within the area. An improved hospitality offer means the stadium will also means the stadium will also be used for meetings, conferences, functions, events and community activities'
We are delighted the additional funding has been secured.'
Workington Town chairman Graeme Peers added: 'As a club we are delighted with the latest developments and we feel the stadium will be one of the right scale and a major step forward to align with our ambitions as a club will now be supported fully with a modern, spectator and business friendly facility. We also see this project as one that can unify the spectator bases to really get behind both clubs, through people attending games in more numbers allowing both teams to bring increased quality to the pitch, whilst being supported by excellent hospitality offerings and facilities.
When Workington AFC join us at the Fibrus for the next 2 seasons we see this as the true start of the project and 2 clubs working together for the future, we wish Workington AFC a great last day at Borough Park and here's to a great future of joint working for the good of the area'
