Thank you, Jimmy!

A club great retires after over 5 decades of service to our great Club.
This weekend marked the end of an era at Workington Town, as we said farewell to one of the club’s most devoted and cherished figures, Jimmy Woolaghan, who retires after an extraordinary 56 years of service.
Although the result on the pitch didn’t fall in our favour, the day was about something much bigger - honouring a man whose contribution to this club goes far beyond rugby league.
At 84, Jimmy was rightly celebrated with a guard of honour as he stepped onto the field, a moment that captured just how much he means to everyone associated with Workington Town. It was a simple gesture, but one filled with deep appreciation for a lifetime of commitment.
Jimmy’s story with the club began back in 1970, and from that moment on, he became a constant presence behind the scenes. Across more than five decades, he took on countless responsibilities. He is always willing to help, always putting the team first. Whether it was assisting players on matchdays, supporting staff, or simply making sure everything ran smoothly, Jimmy did it all without ever asking for recognition.
He has been part of some unforgettable chapters in the club’s history, witnessing triumphs, challenges, and everything in between. Through the highs of silverware and the tougher periods that tested the club, Jimmy remained a steady and dependable figure.
What sets Jimmy apart is not just the length of his service, but the way he carried it out - with humility, pride, and a genuine love for Workington Town. Generations of players and coaches have benefited from his presence, and the respect he earned across the rugby league community speaks volumes about the person he is.
Even in more recent years, Jimmy continued to give his time and energy to the club, adapting to whatever was needed and never stepping away from the role he loved. His dedication never faded.
His influence also extends beyond his own contribution, with his family continuing that strong connection to the club,a true reflection of how deeply Workington Town is woven into their lives.
As Jimmy steps back from his official duties, he does so with the gratitude and admiration of an entire club behind him. His impact cannot be measured, and his legacy will remain a lasting part of Workington Town’s identity.
Jimmy, we thank you sincerely for everything you have given. Your commitment, your passion, and your loyalty will never be forgotten.
You will always be part of Workington Town.
