REPORT: TOWN VS DEWSBURY

A tough afternoon for our Town men on Sunday.
Workington Town were beaten 38-22 by Dewsbury Rams in Sunday’s Championship fixture at the Fibrus Community Stadium.
After a competitive opening, the game slipped away from Town as the visitors took control and built a significant lead, leaving the hosts with too much to do despite a much-improved finish in the closing stages.
The first half was closely contested, with both sides engaged in a physical battle for territory and possession. Dewsbury edged that contest as the half progressed, crossing twice to take a 10-0 advantage into the break.
Town, who were without Evan Lawther, Jake Bradley and Guy Graham, and with Spencer Fulton unavailable following HIA protocols, were unable to halt the Rams’ momentum early in the second half as the visitors extended their lead.
While the scoreline placed the result beyond reach, Town continued to compete and showed character to respond late on.
Jake Dickinson opened the scoring for the hosts, with Jake Carter adding the conversion, before further tries from Mason Lewthwaite and Callum Farrer followed as Town looked to build momentum.
There was also a late score for Alex Donaghy to round off the afternoon.
Callum Phillips was named man of the match after a committed performance throughout.
The performance fell short of the standards expected, and the group will be working to respond ahead of next week’s fixture at Newcastle on Sunday.
