REPORT: TOWN VS SALFORD

Our men claimed their first win with a convincing performance against Salford!
Workington Town produced a superb all-round performance at the Fibrus Community Stadium, running in nine tries to defeat Salford 52–10 and record our first victory of the season in emphatic fashion.
With many Town supporters having waited decades to see a home victory over Salford, the current squad ensured it was well worth the wait with a display full of attacking flair, physical dominance and determined defence in front of a crowd of 1,207.
Town set the tone early and wasted little time stamping their authority on the contest. After just four minutes, Jake Bradley stepped through the defensive line to cross beside the posts, with Jake Carter adding the extras to give the hosts a 6–0 lead.
The early momentum continued as Town controlled possession and territory. Carter extended the advantage with a penalty after Salford were penalised for a high tackle before the Town halfback soon added a try of his own, converting it brilliantly to push the lead further.
The home side’s attacking pressure soon told again. On 20 minutes Jake Dickinson capitalised on a defensive mix-up to score under the posts, Carter once again converting to maintain Town’s perfect start with the boot.
Just three minutes later Dickinson was celebrating again, climbing highest to collect a pinpoint Carter kick and touch down for his second of the afternoon as Town raced out to a commanding 26–0 lead.
Salford struggled to find a way through a resolute Town defensive line, with the hosts showing just as much determination without the ball as they did in attack.
After a brief lull in scoring, Town produced one of the tries of the afternoon. Evan Lawther sparked the move with a powerful break before the ball was shifted through several pairs of hands over 70 metres, eventually sending Alex Donaghy under the posts to finish a superb team effort. Carter converted to extend the lead to 32–0.
Salford grabbed a late consolation before the break through former Town winger Joe Hartley, leaving the halftime score at 32–4, but Town remained firmly in control.
The hosts picked up where they left off after the restart. Zarrin Galea stripped the ball in a one-on-one challenge, and the resulting set ended with Guy Graham powering his way over for his first try of the season. Carter again converted to continue his flawless kicking display.
Town’s attacking rhythm continued when Bradley completed a second try, diving under the posts after collecting a clever kick from Donaghy.
Jake Dickinson soon completed his hat-trick, finishing off a powerful run from man-of-the-match Evan Lawther who was outstanding throughout the afternoon with his ball carrying and playmaking.
Salford managed a second try following a penalty when Brad Dwyer broke through and offloaded to Agnatius Passi to score, but the hosts remained firmly in command.
Town had the final say late in the game when Dickinson crossed for his fourth try of the afternoon, once again supported by Lawther, capping off a remarkable individual performance and sealing an impressive 52–10 victory.
It was a complete performance from Workington Town — dominant in attack, disciplined in defence and full of confidence — giving the home supporters plenty to celebrate and providing the perfect platform to build momentum for the weeks ahead.
