CHALLENGE CUP ROUNDUP
Our Town was too strong in Round 2 of the Challenge Cup!
On Sunday, our mens town squad travelled out to Blackbrook to kick off our Challenge Cup campaign in Round 2. Blackbrook put on a great event with the ground being almost at capacity to cheer on their team.
Town started the game just how they would have liked to, with just 4 minutes in Jake Carter finding Mason Lewthwaite down the left edge who ran 30 meters and got rid of one before putting in a pin point kick for centre, Braden Leigh, to fly back down the middle in pursuit of the ball and plant it down for his first in Town colours.
After that try, Blackbrook fought back hard for the next 20 minutes, keeping Town scoreless and having a lot of ball, but a credit to the defence of Town to not leak a single point.
Town then received the ball back and after 34 minutes played after almost scoring of the inital play, new recruit, Tuarae Rawhiti got a pass off of Dominic Wear and stormed over to take Towns lead to 12-0 at the half, with Jake Carter making no mistake with the conversions.
At the beginning of the second half, Town again made it difficult for themselves with a couple of errors, but after 18 minutes after some nice ball movement, Braden Leigh crossed for his second and Carter took the extras also. Town went on a roll from here with Dominic Wear sneaking through a gap some 2 minutes later, and Alex Donaghy crossing over as well after some crisp passing.
Blackbrook put up a great fight and scored a well deserved try on the siren to make the final score 28-6.
The Town will now face Super League giants, St Helens, on the Friday the 6th of February 7:30pm kick off at Fibrus Community Stadium. Tickets have only been out 24 hours and 50% of seating has been already been exhausted!
