Gary Connolly and Paul Loughlin head to Workington!

A message from the Travellers Rest Supporters Club!

As part of our fundraising activities in support of Workington Town RLFC, we are arranging this year’s Sportsman’s Dinner, which will be held on Friday 20th October, at the Washington Central Hotel, Workington, for which the cost will be £35 per head.(this includes a 2 course meal)

The guest speakers!

This year our guest speakers will be Mr Gary Connolly and Mr Paul Loughlin, who will be supported on the night by our regular Master of Ceremonies Mr Howard Nicholson.

Gary Connolly: 

Gary is a former professional rugby league fullback or centre who made his debut for St Helens in 1988, playing in the 1989 Challenge Cup Final at the age of 17. His impact in the game was such that he was selected to play for Great Britain in 1991, going on to gain 31 GB Caps in total. In 1993 he spent a brief period with Canterbury Bulldogs before he moved to Wigan and quickly became a key member of a very successful team including winning the World Club Challenge against Brisbane Broncos in 1994. In all he made 309 appearances for Wigan, scoring 136 tries. Gary also made 3 appearances for England, including the World Cup Final in 1995.

Paul Loughlin:

Paul is an English former rugby league centre who played for his hometown team St Helens, and also Bradford Bulls, Huddersfield Giants and the Swinton Lions. He made his first team début for St Helens against Oldham aged 17 in 1984. He went on to score over 2,000 points for the club, and holds the club record for most points scored in a game - 2 tries and 16 goals for a total of 40 points. In 1995, he was transferred to the Bradford Bulls where he enjoyed several successful seasons playing a prominent role in winning the Super League title in 1997. Paul was also a regular selection for Great Britain and was selected to go on the 1988 GB Lions Tour.

Tables will be organised for parties of 8/10/12, but individual requirements can be catered for.
