Marnie outlines our Community plans Story in brief:
Exciting times ahead.......

This year is going to be very exciting out and about in the community with all of the activities we have planned for the Rugby League World Cup 2013!

Mini World Cup – All primary and junior schools across West Cumbria have been invited to take part in regional festivals, culminating in a finals day prior to the Scotland v Italy game on Sunday 3rd November

Secondary World Cup - All secondary schools across West Cumbria have been invited to take part in regional festivals, culminating in a finals day prior to the start of the Rugby League World Cup

Inter Club Challenge – All West Cumbrian Community Clubs are being invited to come along to a day of fun packed team building challenges and activities pitting their wits against international players, this is being run in collaboration with Cumbria Young Farmers.

Workforce Touch / Masters – Why not get your work mates together for a fun sociable game of touch / masters running over 6 weeks in July / August.

Floodlit 9’s -  The competition will be made up of two mid week qualifying stages followed by a finals evening held at Derwent Park, entries are welcome from community clubs, businesses and other sports if they wish.

Carnival Tour - The Carnival tour will increase knowledge and awareness of the Rugby League World cup, promoting the community activity surrounding the world cup encouraging members of the community to join in the activity.

March to the Match - The march will include live music and strolling performers which will illuminate the town and provide a carnival like atmosphere, culminating in a firework spectacular.

Opera Studio – Pop up café - Using opera and Italy as a theme for inspiration, these fun and innovative events will raise awareness of the forthcoming visit of the Italian team as well as raise the profile of the Opera studio and their work and opportunities for people to participate in their work.

Welcome the world to Workington Anthem - The anthem will then be taught to a number of groups (community choirs, schools, youth groups, brass bands, schools orchestras) who will have the opportunity to participate in a live performance of the anthem prior to each match

Dance - Working in partnership with Dance Cumbria, local dance schools and the dance consultants employed by RLWC we will develop opportunities for existing dancers and those that have not participated before, to participate in their proposed dance programme

For further information on any of the programmes above, or if you feel you may be able to offer support to the RLWC programme please do not hesitate to get in touch.
