Australian Halfback Corey Herdegen signs for Town in 2027!

Workington Town are proud to announce that Corey Herdegen will join the squad for 2027!
Workington Town RLFC are delighted to announce the signing of Australian half-back Corey Herdegen for the 2027 season, with the playmaker becoming the 15th player to join new Head Coach Brad Singleton's squad.
Corey will make the move from Australia to Cumbria, joining up with his new teammates in December as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign.
The half-back arrives with experience in Queensland Cup rugby, having represented both the Ipswich Jets and Sunshine Coast Falcons. The competition is renowned for its high standard, with players regularly pushing for opportunities in the NRL, and Brad believes Corey has the quality and attributes to make a real impact at Workington.
Brad said: "I'm really pleased to get Corey over to Workington. He's a player we've looked at closely, coming highly recommended from people whose opinions I respect, and someone I believe will bring real quality to our squad.
"Corey's come through a really good system over in Australia, playing Queensland Cup rugby for Ipswich Jets and the Sunshine Coast Falcons. That's a very competitive standard of rugby, playing alongside and against players pushing for opportunities in the NRL, so to have someone with that experience coming into our group is pleasing, and a good step forward for the club.
"What impressed me about Corey is his ability to play what's in front of him. He's comfortable taking the ball to the line, can create opportunities for the players around him and isn't afraid to challenge a defensive line himself.
"One thing I've been big on since coming into the club is how we want to play. We want to move teams around, make them work defensively and then have players who can recognise when those opportunities present themselves. I believe Corey fits that perfectly.
"I also think it's important to recognise the commitment Corey is making. He's a young lad coming from the other side of the world, leaving his family, friends and everything he's known behind to take an opportunity at Workington Town. That's a massive decision. For him to put that trust in myself, the club and what we're trying to build here means a lot, and I'm sure this club and the fans will repay him for that.
"We've got some exciting players coming into the squad and it's important we have the right people making decisions at half-back. I'm looking forward to working with Corey, seeing what he can bring to this group and how far he can go in his career.
"I know the supporters will get right behind him, help him settle into the area and make him feel at home. I'm sure he's going to be an exciting addition to the squad."
Corey's arrival is another exciting addition to the squad as Brad continues to shape his team for 2027. His experience in the Queensland Cup, ability to bring teammates into the game and willingness to take on the defensive line make him an exciting prospect for Town supporters to look forward to watching.
Moving across the world to take up the opportunity is a significant commitment, and everyone at Workington Town looks forward to welcoming Corey and helping him settle into life in Cumbria.
Please join us in giving Corey a huge Townie welcome as he prepares to pull on the blue and white!
Welcome to Workington Town, Corey! Up the Town!
