REPORT: TOWN LADIES VS LEIGH MINERS RANGERS

Our ladies were back at home in the first of the double header!

Workington Town Ladies produced a performance to remember on Sunday, combining a huge result on the field with an important cause off it as they stormed to a 74-4 victory over Rochdale Hornets.

The result represents the biggest win in the history of the Town Ladies team, with the blue and yellow outfit putting on a stunning display in front of their home supporters.

It was also a landmark occasion away from the rugby, with the Ladies hosting their first-ever charity fundraising event.

For the occasion, Town wore a special one-off charity strip which was later auctioned, with proceeds going towards Ewing sarcoma, a rare form of cancer affecting the bones and currently impacting the family of one of the Town Ladies players.

Fast Start Sets the Tone

There was little doubt from the opening whistle that Town intended to make the occasion a memorable one.

Leonie Bragg provided the perfect start, breaking through and racing away from the Rochdale defence before finishing a 40-metre run and adding the conversion herself.

Town quickly built pressure again and Josie Scrimgour was next to cross, finishing a flowing attack to put the hosts 12-0 ahead.

Georgia Naylor then added more points as Town continued to dominate possession and territory.

The Hornets were struggling to contain the relentless pressure, and Town struck again when Keeley Chatters produced a clever kick before Nikita Gibson finished the move brilliantly from out wide.

With Bragg adding the conversion, Town had raced into a 22-0 advantage inside the opening 11 minutes.

The home side continued to attack at pace, with Bethani Fearns producing a huge run before putting Lexi Hodgson through for another score.

Rochdale eventually managed to get on the scoreboard, but Town immediately regained control.

Fearns then got herself on the scoresheet following an excellent 40/20, before going over again shortly afterwards after good work from Chatters and new international recruit Erika Ledster.

Scrimgour added her second try before the interval, leaving Town with an emphatic 40-4 lead at half-time.

Town Keep Their Foot Down

There was no let-up after the restart.

Bragg grabbed her second try of the afternoon following more powerful work from the Town pack, before Hodgson added another after Rebecca Gilpin broke through the Rochdale defence.

Bragg's conversion took Town beyond the half-century mark.

Abigail Turner then joined the scoring list, bursting through and sprinting 50 metres to extend the advantage further.

With Rochdale tiring, Town continued to find space.

Scrimgour completed her hat-trick after a superb piece of attacking play, before Fearns crossed again to bring her personal tally to four tries.

There was still time for Hodgson to add her second of the afternoon, powering through after another long-range break to bring up a remarkable final score of 74-4.

A Day to Remember

The final whistle confirmed more than just another league victory.

Town Ladies had produced the biggest win in their history, strengthened their position towards the top of the table and celebrated the occasion by raising funds for a cause that means so much to the club and its players.

There were outstanding individual performances throughout the side, with Fearns' four-try haul and hat-tricks for Hodgson and Scrimgour among the afternoon's highlights.

But this was ultimately a team performance, with every player contributing to a display that showcased just how far this Town Ladies side has progressed.

With the season entering its crucial stages and a home play-off already secured, Sunday's result sends out another strong message.

Town Ladies are here to compete and they're not slowing down.

They return home next weekend to play Stanningley.
