SCHOLEY EXCELS AS TOWN BRING IKE HOME!

TOWN REGAIN THE IKE IN HORRENDOUS CONDITIONS!

Captain Stevie Scholey capped a fantastic testimonial year with a man of the match performance as Town deservedly regained the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy in a low scoring affair at a windswept and rainy Fibrus Community Stadium. The game which could possibly be the last Ike game to be played at the stadium was a tight one and Haven took the lead against the run of play when Ellison Holgate jumped out of dummy half getting a kick away that created confusion at the Town end under the posts and when full back Alex Donaghy slid to scoop up the ball he caught a retreating Lawther and the ball came loose, Holgate was following up and dived on the ball to put Haven in the lead. Ex-Town man Ciaran Walker tagged on the 2 and Haven were 6-0 up.

The lead didn't last long and Town made the best of the field position after Haven knocked on and went right with Donaghy finding Galea who somehow got the ball down in spectacular fashion. Carter nailed a tough conversion and Town were level.

Town continued to have the better of field position, on the last Donaghy made a half break and was grabbed just in time, the ball went to Carter who put in a great kick and when Cole Walker Taylor and Walker collided, the ball squirted out and Town's hooker Callum Phillips collected and dived over to send Town fans into song! Carter tagged on the 2 and Town went 12-6 and it remained that way until around 10 minutes to go, Carter showed some great game awareness to drop a field goal and with a 2 score lead Town saw out the game and Ike was home!

On Sunday 18th Town are next up against Cumbrian rivals Barrow Raiders and travel down the coast for a 2pm kick off in the first round of the newly merged Championship!

The following week Town will travel to Blackbrook ARLFC on the Sunday for a Challenge Cup Rd 2 clash with the winners rewarded with a huge game against Super League St Helens! Tie to be played 6th / 7th or 8th of February!
