OVER £10,000 RAISED FOR WASDALE MOUNTAIN RESCUE

A great day of community spirit at the Fibrus!

Community comes together to raise vital funds for Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team.

On Sunday, we held our annual charity fundraising game and it was a memorable occasion starting with the Workington Town Ladies recording an impressive victory against Wakefield Trinity to move to 3rd place in the division, that was followed by a gritty Town performance against 2nd place Midlands Hurricanes to record a 29-12 win!

The fundraising and good spirits continued long into the evening and an amazing £10244.14 was raised. Every bid, donation, ticket, cheer, pint, replica shirt sale, playing shirt auction all made this possible in what was a heartfelt tribute to Chris Brown adding layer of meaning that lifts it beyond the number. We at Town hope we did you all proud, a truly amazing, friendly family.

It was great for the club to give so much back to Vicky Brown and her wonderful family,Vicky is Chris's sister and she is owner/director at No Name Travel,  our principle Workington Town Community Trust sponsor.

Vicky had the following to say;

'I just want to say a massive thank you to Graeme Peers and everyone at Workington Town Rugby League Football Club for making the charity match on Sunday something so special. It wasn’t just about the incredible amount of money we all raised for Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team but about the community spirit that was so evident on the day. The lads played a fantastic game, the atmosphere was amazing and it was just so special to remember my brother Chris Brown and raise money for Wasdale MRT in his memory. Our main aim was to hopefully raise £6000 to help the team purchase a new trailer to help them transport their boat for any water rescues but we absolutely smashed that out of the park and they have another £4244 to put towards other running costs. Again thank you so much to everyone involved for making it such a memorable day.'

Once again thank you, from everyone at Workington Town for getting behind the Wasdale Mountain Rescue team.
