Biography

Blain signed for Workington after a successful trial period in 2019.

Blain built a strong reputation whilst representing Barrow Island. He was named the National Conference League Division Three Player of the Year in 2018. Blain also topped the try scoring charts in 2018 in NCL 3 and was named Cumbria RL captain as well as being named Man of the Series for Cumbria in their tri-counties campaign.

Blain follows in his fathers footsteps as his Dad Dean represented Town with distinction and Blain is looking to make his own mark in the pro game going forward.

Town director of rugby Gary Murdock said: “Blain has really stood out over the last few weeks due to his commitment, enthusiasm and application. “He constantly gives 100 per cent, has great pace and he’s fearless on the pitch. He’s been on trialist forms and although he didn’t get much game time, he scored on debut and I’m looking forward to watching him develop as a professional. He’s a great lad who’s fitted in very well at the club and with the squad.’’

Blain continued to work hard as he continues his development at this level and has performed well in both pre-season friendlies in the hooking role, playing big minutes as he belies his stature against players much bigger in size. Blain epitomises the saying it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog!

Blain was part of the squad that gained promotion in 2021 with an uncanny knack of scoring with virtually his first touch when introduced off the bench, however limited game time under ex coach Chris Thorman with Town having a numerous hookers ultimately led to Blain choosing to return to Barrow Island and get some quality NCL rugby under his belt. Blain has unfinished business and is determine to impact even more in 2023, one of Director of Rugby's Gary Murdock first signings when Gary returned to the club in 2022.

A massive fans favourite, quick, brave and excellent support player with an ability of being in the right place at right time and sensing opportunities Blain is one to watch in 2023!

Blain said the following as the season draws closer;

'The club means a lot to my family with my Dad Dean spending his best years up here so I'm delighted to back and give professional RL another go and prove that I can excel at this standard. My hopes for the season are to play regularly and score tries but most importantly play my part in a hungry team, play for the fans and help the club reach it's goals, we want to be in those play offs and see what's possible from there'
