Town have been urged to come back stronger against visitors York tomorrow (3pm) to wipe out memories of last week’s embarrassing cup capitulation at Featherstone Rovers.
Boss Gary Charlton warned there must no repeat against the City Knights, in Town’s opening home game of the league campaign.
“I’m expecting a positive reaction from our lads,” said Charlton. “They’ve been told the standard we need to be playing at, and I’m expecting a full-blooded encounter.
“We are looking forward to the challenge, and if we put our best foot forward, we’ll be in the mix.”
Jack Pedley is suffering from tonsillitis and Dean Bragg will also be sidelined, while Lee Dutton and Kris Coward will undergo late fitness tests.
Scott Burgess will come in to consideration for the hooking role.
The Town squad this week watched a DVD of the Featherstone defeat to show where they went wrong.
“Everyone can have a bad day, but we let them run over the top of us,” Charlton added. “We weren’t committed in the tackle, and everything about it was poor. But we’ve highlighted what we have to put right.”
Charlton warned that Town must guard against the threat posed by York playmaker Chris Thorman, the ex-Hudderfield Giants star.
“Most things come off him,” the coach said. “He’ll be directing them, and if we pressure him, we might be able to rattle them.”
York are set to make up to 10 changes from the weakened team that beat London Skolars 34-12 midweek in the Northern Rail Cup.
