Current Community Activity
Primary schools coaching takes place under the banner of the Rugby Football League development programme aimed at increasing participation levels in the sport, we are required to offer coaching sessions for children in years 3-4 and 5-6 across Allerdale and Carlisle pin pointing them to the amateur game. However with our geographical area being so wide we find that many children do not have access to an amateur club therefore we tailor our sessions around enjoyment, team building, exercise and motor skills development. Each school is offered a six weeks programme incorporating 5 weeks of coaching sessions followed by an inter-school festival held at the professional ground. We require all schools to enter a mixed team therefore boys and girls get to enjoy the day, teams are brought down to the stadium, allowed to change in the first team changing rooms, play their games on the first team pitch and run up into the grandstand to receive their medals.
Secondary school coaching is tailored to separate male and female team activity. We offer support to PE teachers Coaching Rugby League as part of the curriculum, or for those entering the Rugby Football League’s Champion Schools Competition. Groups of school children are separated into ability levels and coached basic skills, rules of the game, team activity and positional play. When the groups are reaching a similar standard of ability, they are brought together to compile a squad for their age group.
Big Lottery Fund Community Development Officers – The Community Development officers have been tasked with a project to increase levels of participation for children and young people with Learning difficulties and physical disabilities, disaffected families (single parent, parents who are drug/alcohol dependant etc), children and young people suffering clinical obesity and healthy eating and lifestyle awareness for children within secondary schools.
School holiday activities take place across the Allerdale and Carlisle region providing activity days for children to come along and participate in rugby league activity free of charge, children do not need to book they can just turn up on the day.
In Partnership with the Crime Reduction partnership we provide activity days for children who have been highlighted by the Crime Reduction Partnership group as potential and persistent offenders. These days consist of physical activity sessions, rugby league activity sessions and talks from players about lifestyle choices, pathways and having a healthy active mind.
