Biography

Beginning his career with Halifax, Penkywicz made his Super League debut in 2000. He left Halifax and joined the Huddersfield Giants in 2004 following Halifax's relegation from Super League. Penkywicz rejoined Halifax in the Championship in 2007. In 2008, he was named in the Wales squad to face England at the Keepmoat Stadium prior to the 2008 Rugby League World Cup. After 5 seasons with Halifax, Penkywicz joined Leigh Centurions in 2013. Penkywicz joined Toronto Wolfpack on a short term contract, making 13 appearances for the club during their inaugural 2017 season in League 1 and helping the team to promotion before returning to the UK.

Sean arrived at Workington just before the start of the 2018 season and in line with Towns uncanny knack have acquiring superb no 9's 'Penky' is right up there as one of the best we've had. Smart, elusive and on point with his passing Penkywicz is crucial to the Town cause and his early calf injury sustained against Bradford in the playoff final loss was a hammer blow to the clubs chances that day. A superb operator he dictates much of Towns attacking and has such awareness of space but with his trademark darts from dummy half are also a key weapon in his armoury. Opposition defences are often caught napping just when they think he's about to offload he darts, and when you think he's going to dart he does the exact opposite. A genuine class act who is extremely well liked at the club and appreciated by opposition coaches alike. He was shortlisted for Championship 1 Player of the Year before missing out to Connor Robinson of the York City Knights.

He did however receive deserved accolades at the end of season awards where he picked up Player of the Year, Players Player of the Year, Ladies Committee Player of the Year and Derwent Park Supporters Club Player of the Year!

Sean has played 366 games with 147 tries and his Wales record yielded 4 tries from 4 games.

He started the season in some style scoring the winning try in Towns 32-28 victory at Oldham on the opening day.

Have a great season Sean!
