SEASON 2022 - PRESENTATION NIGHT AWARDS & UPDATE STATEMENT

Workington Town RLFC would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the club to reach the end of the 2022 playing season, in what has been a truly difficult year, both on and off the pitch:

We would like to thank the remaining players for working with the board, sticking together and accepting a pay cut and still putting in the effort demanded in training and on the field.

Thank you also to the players partners and families for supporting them through these tough days and for enabling that dedication, without you, they wouldn’t be the professionals they are.

Thank you to the coaching and support staff, many of whom are long-serving, devoted volunteers, dedicating so much of your time to ensure the successful running of the squad and required logistics, without your efforts, there wouldn’t be a professional squad in place that finished the season;

Thank you to outgoing Head Coach Chris Thorman for again working with the board and the sacrifices you made, it really is appreciated.

We wish you well at Newcastle Thunder and thank you for the achievements of your tenure. The playoff win v Doncaster will never ever be forgotten here and wish you, Charlotte and Beauden nothing but the best of what life can bring.

Thank you to the staff and volunteers at Derwent Park who ensure the facility looks as great today as when it was first commissioned nearly 70 years ago, and whom work tirelessly to ensure the running of the day to operations - without your help, the facility and all events hosted at DP simply would not operate;

Thank you to all our partners, sponsors and suppliers for your continued support - without your vital assistance, guidance, flexibility and help, the club would not survive. Simple.

Finally,

A huge thank you to the supporters and supporters groups:

The Travellers Rest Supporters Club.

Scott Graham and Paul at the Derwent Park Supporters Club.

The Blue Knights Support group who's assistance evolved from trying to support team building to club preservation.

The people who continue to support us both home and away, and raise not only awareness of our great cause, but raised much needed funds to ensure the club can still operate. You’re amazing and appreciated beyond words.

The club has had a difficult year but it has moved forward even when losing our Championship status.

The biggest learning is that this club is not where it needs to be infrastructure wise and in light of the IMG report it is even more pressing that we appoint skilled professionals in key positions as and when we can, we are working hard on that, it will take time, but there is light at the end of the tunnel and we will be a better club for it, a more sustainable club to ensure this situation doesn't happen again.

As we look ahead, we have now appointed Gary Murdock as Director of Rugby, appointed Anthony Murray as Head coach for 2023 and the recruitment has started well with retention of Matty Henson and Jordan Thomson and the return of exciting young half back Ciaran Walker.

More signings have been agreed for 2023 and we will continue to release those names soon.

We also have a fantastic night under lights to look forward to, Cumbria RL v Jamaica , Friday 7th, 7:45pm Ko, tickets available here:

We would like to also thank our media partners at Radio Cumbria Paul Newton and James Phillips and Bridget Dempsey at the Newsquest Times and Star for continuing to support us with positive news articles, without you our communication capability would be greatly reduced.

There’s so many other “thank yous”, too many to list, so to anyone who has supported us, in any way, outside of the above, thank you, we work towards a good season in League 1 and fighting hard to restore our Championship status.
