Dec O'Donnell returns to Workington Town!

Workington Town are delighted to announce the return of Dec O'Donnell after he was granted a release from London Broncos.

Dec is available to play against Newcastle Thunder on Sunday in our opening Betfred Championship fixture.

Head Coach Chris Thorman had the following to say on Dec's return!

'I think most people know that Dec and myself always had a close player-coach relationship. We stayed in touch over the last couple of months and it became clear that his move to London Broncos wasn't going to work out for him for a couple of reasons. But mainly because it's a long way from his Northern roots. He made Broncos aware of this and was granted a release from his contract. We then acted quickly to secure his services. I don't need to tell our fans what Dec will bring but I probably have to clarify some positional questions. We signed Evan Simons to be our hooker for 2022 and that remains. We also have one of the best impact players who can also play hooker in Matty Henson. Matty is also going to play a significant role in our 2022 campaign and for the record both have had phenomenal preseasons. That said, after discussions with our senior players and Dec we will be looking to play Dec as a middle forward / loose forward for the majority of the year. Our sport is continually changing and evolving and gone are the days where you pigeon hole a player. All my players are capable of playing in multiple positions and being versatile is a necessity in Rugby League now. Having Dec at his infectious and enthusiastic best is only going to benefit us.
