HAVEN REGAIN IKE SOUTHWARD TROPHY WITH LATE CALLUM PHILLIPS TRY!

Youthful Town squad equips itself well in promising performance.

Whitehaven again scored late in the game to regain the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy from Workington Town with ex-Town man Callum Phillips crossing for the winning try in the 79th minute after David Thompson's converted try after 74 minutes had levelled things up.

Town had forged ahead due to some slick handling and eye catching rugby when first Gordon Maudling and then Carl Forber scored to cancel out Dion Aiye's bulldozing score that had put Haven 12-6 up. Earlier Haven had led 6-0 with an opportunist dart from James Newton before Tyler Lancaster timed his pass perfectly to put Town's new recruit Alex Young free down the left to level things up.

With Town in the ascendency at 18-12 it looked likely they would pull further clear but Haven hauled themselves level after taking advantage of good field position and has the clock ran down Phillips saw a gap to dive over from close range much to Haven's delight.

Town gave debuts to youngsters Billy Thompson, Ethan Bickerdike and Zak Steel late in the game and will be delighted with many aspects of the fixture with all new signings showing up well.
